How To Stay Sane During Quarantine

Well, as sane as one can be during a global pandemic and a nation-wide lockdown. I promise- I’m not going to tell you to workout!

“A room without books is like a body without a soul”

➨ I am absolutely one of those people that claims to love reading, but in reality, the last book I read was probably around 2 years ago. Well, I’ve finally been able to break that habit over the past three months.

I’m not going to bore you with a detailed analysis on each book- but I would definitely recommend reading:

  1. “The Silent Patient”- by Alex Michaelides
  2. “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini
  3. “Murder on the Orient Express” by Agatha Christie (Actually I would recommend any Agatha Christie novel- she’s an amazing writer)

➨Now, I know it’s totally cliché, or for a lack of a better word, cringy, for me to tell you to sit down and paint a sunset. For the first 2 months of lockdown, I laughed at all the “artists” on Instagram showing off their work. Recently, I changed my mind- there’s only so many video calls I can take.

Don’t worry- if your painting looks hideous, we can just call it abstract! Just brush off the disappointment!… (I sincerely apologise for the pun)

Here’s some of my “art”

So I’ve decided to call it abstract…

Don’t have a quarantine birthday. I repeat- do not have a quarantine birthday.

➨I recently finished high school- everytime I say that, I get hit by this weird wave of sadness yet relief. Anyone else?

Anyways, back to my point- after many, many months of studying- I ended up missing out on so many movies and shows. I have so much to catch up on that if I wasn’t for that teeny-tiny part of me that wants to continue writing this- I would be in bed right now watching Netflix.

My parents still bring up the “lost week,” when I didn’t leave my bedroom except to get more snacks.

If just watching Netflix ever gets boring- there are amazing platforms like “Netflix Party,” that allow you to be social without actually socialising. It does get draining to have to be interesting and social through a screen; especially when we have to answer questions like: “What have you been up to?” or “What’s going on with you that’s exciting?”

Here are a few shows and movies that I would definitely recommend watching:

  1. Dead to Me
  2. Dynasty
  3. Gone Girl
  4. The Good Place

➨However, I can’t say that I haven’t enjoyed sitting at home in my pyjamas for the past few months. I’m sorry, but I’m just not one of those people that feels the need to get dressed, just to sit at home. My new normal involves only having to look good from the neck up- which most of the time I don’t achieve anyway! I’ll throw on the occasional better looking T-shirt for the more special occasions.

➨I have played more Ludo in the past 3 months than I have in the last 17 years of my life. Bored Games I guess?

➨In case I forgot to mention it- do not have a quarantine birthday.

Until Next Time.
